Testimonial - Dairy

Description:
Hot and stagnant conditions are a constant problem for Dairy Farmers in Jordan. It has been well documented that cattle experiencing uncomfortable environmental conditions fail to eat as much and therefore produce less milk. With summer temperatures in Jordan averaging upwards of 98°F (36°C) and humidity levels fluctuating between 40-70% dairy farmers are constantly searching for efficient ways to keep their cattle comfortable.

Issues include:
Excessive heat and stagnant air negatively affecting cattle comfort, resulting in a decline in milk production and therefore loss in profits for the customer.
Solution:
After an examination of the barn layout, SkyBlade was able to propose adding one STOL Series 16ft diameter HVLS fan in the Milking Area of the Barn. By adding the fan, along with a refined misting system, SkyBlade was able to reduce heat stress on the cattle while they're being milked. By creating a more comfortable environment for their cattle, the dairy farmers have since seen a 12% increase in milk production. This has been attributed to the addition of SkyBlade Fans.

Testimonial - Sporting Facility

Description:
SkyBlade Fan Company received an inquiry from a Sporting Facility experiencing daily obstacles with both heating and cooling. High energy costs during the cooler months, players quickly fatiguing themselves from heat exhaustion, and low attendance on warmer days were the issues plaguing this facility.

With the building's existing poor air movement, it was too hot for the players in the summer and too costly to heat the facility in the winter. At the time, the Sporting Facility was using multiple small paddle fans to help cool the facility during the summer. However, this was not making a noticeable difference to either the players or operational energy costs. These small paddle fans were simply creating pockets of stagnant hot air and moving the warm air pockets around, causing the players to sweat more. Deciding that it was time to make a change to a cost friendly and cooler solution, the Sporting Facility found SkyBlade.

Solution:

SkyBlade evaluated the Sporting Facility's issues and drafted a grand slam solution. By using four 20ft. (6.1M) diameter STOL Series HVLS fans, SkyBlade was able to redirect the air flow through the building.

STOL Technology:
STOL Technology, integrated within the design of the blades allowed slow moving columns of air to be redirected evenly over the courts. This redirection of air movement easily reduced the scorching temperatures present on the hottest summer days and was able to provide a cool, non-breezy playing environment. During the winter season, the increase in the building destratification introduced by our HVLS fans helped to evenly recycle and redistribute the heat trapped at the ceiling level throughout the facility, ultimately reducing the facility's seasonal heating cost by 25%! Cooler Schools

The Clean Energy Council reports that the average school classroom uses 3800 kWh of electricity per year – about half that of an entire average household.

With only 27 per cent of schools having an Action Plan to reduce their energy consumption various State Governments have developed programs to support schools in the lowering of the power bills of schools.

In Victoria, the Government is piloting a program the Greener Government School Buildings Pilot Program

Amongst the initiatives contained in the program, The Victorian Government will stump up the funds for upgrades and schools will pay back the costs over a five-year period based on savings. After payback is complete, each school will keep half of the savings generated, making more funds available for other activities. Currently, 100 schools have been selected for the pilot

In NSW, the most ambitious and targeted program, targeting the cost and benefits of cooling schools is the Cooler Classrooms program aimed to deliver sustainable cooling, heating and fresh air ventilation systems to eligible classrooms and library spaces.

In Queensland, the Advancing Clean Energy Schools program has engaged, via a tender process, three contractors to carry out the state’s work. Unfortunately, schools are unable to be proactive in advocating their needs by applying for the program, so we could see a lot of Queensland school students swelter until the government comes around to their school.

The Northern Territory understandably is focusing on power generation as a sustainable option with their Rooftop Solar in Schools program.

As part of a significant boost for maintenance across Western Australian schools, the government will be removing old and inefficient heating and cooling systems.

At the time of writing, Tasmania does not have a specific school energy program in place.

Of course, it’s not just schools that are looking to reduce their power bills and become more energy-efficient, small to large businesses across the country have been looking for achievable options to reduce, specifically, their heating and cooling costs.

When it comes time to heat or cool large spaces – warehouses to a school gymnasium – refrigerated and even evaporative cooling become a highly expensive option to install and to run. The efficiency of these options is greatly improved when a High Volume Low Speed (HVLS) fan – the big fans sometimes seen in large hospitality and industrial environments – is incorporated into the cooling plan.
